How to pay for MyPost Business labels with Amex
As a MyPost Business customer, you can pay for your Australia Post labels in three ways:
Credit card: Visa or Mastercard. Best for businesses looking for flexibility and an easy setup.
Charge account: Best for growing businesses with regular shipping volumes.
PayPal: Best for new or smaller ecommerce businesses.
Direct credit card payments are limited to Visa and Mastercard. So what if you want to use American Express (Amex) to pay for your shipping labels?
You can use Amex in two ways:
✔️ Pay for labels directly through PayPal, with your Amex as the funding source.
✔️ Apply for an Australia Post charge account and pay its invoices through PayPal with your Amex.
This guide explains how each option works with SellerDash: AusPost Shipping, how to set up your payment method in the app, what to check before applying for a charge account and how to choose the right workflow for your Shopify store.

How automatic and manual payments work in SellerDash: AusPost Shipping
SellerDash: AusPost Shipping connects your Shopify store to your MyPost Business account. Label payments go to Australia Post through MyPost Business, and the payment method you choose determines whether labels can be paid for automatically.
✔️ Automatic: Visa, Mastercard and charge accounts. Labels are paid for when you print them in SellerDash, with no extra payment step.
✔️ Manual: PayPal. You create labels in SellerDash, then complete the payment in MyPost
Business using the Pay & Print button.
You choose your payment method in the app under CARRIERS. Click the blue pencil icon next to your MyPost Business connection, then open the PAYMENT SETTINGS tab. Because Amex isn’t available as a direct card payment, paying with Amex means choosing either the manual PayPal workflow or an automatic charge account that you pay by invoice.
Paying for labels with Amex through PayPal
To pay for MyPost Business labels with Amex, select your Amex as the PayPal funding source. PayPal Australia lists American Express among its supported payment methods.
Setting up PayPal in SellerDash: AusPost Shipping
Go to CARRIERS and click the blue pencil icon next to your MyPost Business connection.
Open the PAYMENT SETTINGS tab.
Select PayPal as the payment method.
Choose Manual in the Select a Payment Option field.

How to pay with Amex through PayPal
Link your Amex to your PayPal account.
Create your labels in SellerDash. They appear in the MyPost Business Orders page with a payment pending warning.
Open the MyPost Business Orders page and click the red Pay & Print button.
Check that your Amex is selected as the payment source. If you have several cards or a bank account linked, make sure the payment is going to the account you intend to use.
Confirm the payment and return to SellerDash. Each order updates as paid within about a minute, and you can print your labels from the app or MyPost Business.
For the full steps, see MyPost Business payment by PayPal.
Is the PayPal option right for your business?
This option suits ecommerce businesses that want to use Amex without applying for a charge account. The trade-off is an extra manual step each time you process a batch of labels..
If another team member handles dispatch, agree on who completes the payment and how the person preparing orders knows it’s done. A clear process stops payment admin from interrupting packing and dispatch.
Paying an Australia Post charge account invoice with Amex
A charge account lets you keep label payments automatic in SellerDash while still using Amex. Labels are charged to your approved Australia Post account, and you pay the invoice separately.
Applying for a charge account
Australia Post calls this a Business Credit Account. Its application guidance directs parcel senders spending over $1,000 each month to apply through the Services page in MyPost Business.
Approval is required, so check with Australia Post whether an account suits your business. MyPost Business Support can also provide application information.
Selecting your charge account in SellerDash: AusPost Shipping
When you connect your MyPost Business account, SellerDash automatically checks for linked charge accounts. If one is available, it appears in the Select a Payment Method field on the PAYMENT SETTINGS tab. If you have several, choose the one to use from the drop-down list.
Which payment methods does Australia Post accept for charge account invoices?
Australia Post’s business account payment guidance lists three methods for paying invoiced charges:
✔️ Direct debit from a bank account
✔️ Electronic funds transfer (EFT) from a bank account
✔️ Post Billpay, with options including credit or debit card, EFTPOS, PayPal and cash
⚠️ Check your direct debit first. Australia Post’s application asks for bank details for direct debit. If a direct debit is already set up on your account, confirm the payment arrangement with Australia Post before paying through PayPal to avoid paying the same invoice twice.
How to pay your invoice with Amex through PayPal
Find the Billpay code and reference in the How to Pay section on the second page of your invoice.
Follow Australia Post’s Post Billpay instructions to pay online or through the AusPost app.
Choose PayPal as your payment method.
Check that your linked Amex is available and selected, then confirm the payment.
Australia Post accepts PayPal for account invoices, and PayPal supports Amex. However, the funding options shown at checkout determine what you can use for each transaction.
